Designing a Simpler Entry into Proactive Healthcare

Designing a Simpler Entry into Proactive Healthcare

Everlab is a health-tech startup focused on proactive, preventive healthcare delivered as an end-to-end, data-driven service. Removing the friction of traditional pathways from bookings to ongoing monitoring it turns a reactive, fragmented experience into a structured, continuous one.

Context

While Everlab’s core program delivered high clinical value, it carried an equally high barrier to entry: significant cost, perceived commitment, and a long, potentially overwhelming journey.

I joined to design a new entry point centred around blood testing. This was an opportunity to make Everlab more accessible without reducing it to a “lite” version of the product.

Role

Joined as a senior product designer on trial, working directly with the Sydney founders. Defined the product experience for a blood-test-led entry pathway into the Everlab ecosystem.

Owned UX, UI and copywritting for:

  • Onboarding and decision-making flows.

  • Booking and pre-test preparation.

  • Biomarker results and ongoing interpretation.

  • Collaborated closely with product and clinical stakeholders to balance usability with medical rigor.

Problem

Creating a new product in an unfamiliar tier meant their current experience would fall short.

  1. The existing sign-up journey implied high cost and long commitment.

  2. The process felt clinical and distant rather than empowering.

  3. Biomarker results were data-rich but emotionally dense and hard to interpret.

Healthcare decisions need reassurance and transparency, not pressure. The product needed to feel credible, understandable, and safe a confident but calm introduction to lifelong care.

Project Constraints

Trust and Clarity

Any medical information must feel scientifically grounded yet emotionally supportive.

Balance depth and simplicity

Oversimplifying would dilute credibility; overloading would overwhelm.

Brand integrity

The design had to maintain Everlab’s premium, medically rigorous positioning.

Scalability

The experience needed to support future test types and long-term health tracking.

Strategy

We reframed blood testing as a gateway into long-term health optimisation, not a standalone transaction.

The work focused on clarity, trust, and emotional safety: redesigning onboarding and booking to feel simple and credible, and creating a layered results experience that translated complex biomarker data into clear, actionable understanding while preserving clinical depth.

Interventions

Reframing Blood Testing as an Entry Strategy

01

Blood testing risked being seen as a cheaper, standalone product. Repositioning it as a strategic gateway into ongoing care meant:

  • Framing tests as the first, low-friction step into a longer journey of monitoring, guidance, and intervention.

  • Explicitly connecting test selection and expectations to what would follow in the broader program.

  • Working with founders to develop language that emphasised continuity (“your starting point”) over one-off transactions.

This allowed blood testing to feel like a legitimate, high-value entry into Everlab rather than a diluted tier.

Redesigning Onboarding & Booking as One Flow

02

Previously, onboarding and booking behaved like separate operations, creating cognitive breaks at the exact moment users needed reassurance. I reshaped this into a single, coherent decision journey by:

  • Asking only essential questions upfront and using progressive disclosure for medical and logistical details.

  • Clearly explaining what happens before, during, and after the test.

  • Integrating booking as the natural next step once users understood the value and process.

Onboarding became more like a guided conversation, and booking felt like a confident “yes” rather than a separate hurdle.

Designing a Layered Results Experience

03

Traditional lab reports are optimised for clinicians, not patients. To avoid confusion and panic, I structured the results around layered comprehension:

  • A top layer answering “Is this okay?” and “What should I pay attention to?”

  • Contextual, plain-language explanations and trends that made meaning out of numbers.

  • Deeper access to reference ranges, historical comparisons, and technical details for those who wanted to explore or share with their doctor.

Visual hierarchy and grouping (e.g. metabolic, cardiovascular themes) helped tell a clear story while still respecting clinical nuance.

Designing for Emotional as well as Cognitive Reality

04

Health data is emotionally charged. I treated first-look moments and key decision points as emotional experiences, not just information handoffs by:

  • Using language that balanced reassurance with honesty no false comfort, no alarmism.

  • Sequencing information so that users first got grounded, then explored detail.

  • Providing clear next steps so people never felt abandoned with “bad” or ambiguous results.

This allowed users to both understand and emotionally process their data in a safer, more supported way.

Outcome

The experience supported users not just in understanding their data, but in emotionally processing it and deciding what to do next, without feeling abandoned or overwhelmed.

The result was a product experience that felt authoritative rather than overwhelming. New and existing partners responded positively to the redesigned flows, confidence in automated triaging improved, and the work expanded into onboarding and first-use experience. Working closely with engineering, I ensured that system intelligence was represented accurately without oversimplification or unnecessary noise.

Impact

Created a lower-friction entry path into Everlab’s ecosystem that maintained the brand’s premium tone.

01

Improved clarity and usability of biomarker results, making complex data feel both understandable and trustworthy.

03

Reduced friction across onboarding and booking by turning them into a single, coherent journey rather than disconnected tasks.

02

Strengthened the perceived value of Everlab’s data-driven approach by connecting “one test” to an ongoing, proactive health narrative.
